
Skipworth Powers Suns over Mudcats

Jacksonville, FL --- Kyle Skipworth hit a two-run homer in the last of the sixth to shoot the Jacksonville Suns past the Carolina Mudcats 3-2 at the Baseball Grounds on Wednesday afternoon.
Skipworth pulled a 3-2 pitch from reliever Travis Webb (L, 1-5) into the fourth row of the right field bleachers to give the Suns (29-24) the lead. Carolina (16-37) had pushed ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth thanks to RBI hits from Cody Puckett and Felix Perez. However, an infield single by Alex Romero started the Suns' sixth inning.
The Suns took a 1-0 lead against starter Kyle McCulloch in the third inning on a double by Luke Montz, which scored Jim Negrych from first base. McCulloch allowed just the one run over five innings, fanning three.
Carolina managed just five hits after amassing only four on Tuesday night.
Perez went 2-4 with an RBI, with Jake Kahaulelio walking thee times and stealing his first base of the season.
Webb permitted two runs on two hits over a pair of innings to suffer the defeat.
Jason Braun made his Double-A debut, retiring the first two hitters of the eighth inning on groundballs before exiting following a walk. Donnie Joseph entered to fan Skipworth to end the inning.
James Avery (3-6, 4,53) starts for the Mudcats Thursday night against Brad Hand (6-1, 3.63) at 7:05 PM ET.
