Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS-A tight game took an ugly turn in the top of the ninth, as the BayBears plated eight runs (only three earned runs) en route to a 12-3 victory over the M-Braves.

The BayBears (29-24) scored 12 runs on 14 hits and two errors while the M-Braves (21-32) managed just three runs on 10 hits and two errors.

Mobile right-hander Wes Roemer (4-1) gave up two earned runs on eight hits and a homer while fanning five Braves in six and 2/3 innings of work.

Mobile took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. A.J. Pollock tripled and scored on a Paul Goldschmidt single. Goldschmidt then stole second and scored on a Taylor Harbin single to right field.

Cory Harrilchak doubled to plate Ernesto Mejia in the bottom of the second, making it a 2-1 game. Harrilchak's hit also broke a six game, 0-18, drought.

Tyler Pastornicky deposited one into the M-Braves bullpen to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. The home run was his fifth of the season.

Mobile took a 3-2 lead on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Alfredo Marte in the top of the sixth before adding an insurance run in the eighth on a Jacob Elmore RBI-single.

The BayBears added a run in the ninth before Paul Goldschmidt delivered a three-run homer into the M-Braves bullpen, extending his Southern League lead to 18 home runs and giving the BayBears an 8-2 lead. Ryan Wheeler capped off the night with a three-run home run to make it 12-2.

An RBI-single from Pastornicky in the bottom of the ninth made it 12-3, as the M-Braves left two stranded in scoring position.

Lefty Brett Oberholtzer (3-5) went seven frames, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks. Oberholtzer, who ranked third in the Southern League with 56 strikeouts on the season coming into tonight's game, did not fan a BayBear all night.

Eliecer Cardenas came on in the ninth and was charged with all eight runs. M-Braves infielder Jordan Kreke then came on to record the final out of the night.

In game four of this five-game series, the M-Braves send right-hander J.J. Hoover (2-3, 2.27) to the hill where he'll square off against righty Charles Brewer (3-1, 3.21). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
