(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters worked a 7-3 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas Thursday night in the first-ever Triple A game played at Constellation Field.
The Skeeters, who were named the Houston Astros Triple A affiliate during the offseason, played their first 12 games of the season on the road before returning to Constellation Field.
After going down 3-2 in the top of the fifth, the Skeeters took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double from Alex De Goti and RBI single from Taylor Jones.
Bryan De La Cruz hit the Skeeters' first Triple A home run at Constellation Field, with a three-run home run in the sixth inning. It was De La Cruz's third home run over the Skeeters' last two games.
Jojanse Torres got his first Triple A start and struck out five batters through four innings and allowing a run on three hits. Carson LaRue picked up the win in relief in his season-debut, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out four through two innings.
El Paso took its one-run lead in the fifth on a solo home run from Webster Rivas and RBI double from Luis Campusano.
The Skeeters struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning. De Goti drove in the first Triple A run in Constellation Field history with a groundout and Lorenzo Quintana followed two batters later with an RBI single.
Chihuahuas starter Brett Kennedy threw just one pitch before leaving the contest after being struck in the leg on a line drive from De La Cruz.
The Skeeters and Chihuahuas continue their six-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Left-hander Ryan Hartman is scheduled to start for the Skeeters and will be opposed by right-hander Jesse Scholtens.
