
Skeeters Sweep El Paso with 8-1 Win

SUGAR LAND, Texas -The Sugar Land Skeeters swept their first home series this season with an 8-1 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas on Tuesday night at Constellation Field.
The Skeeters have won five in a row, giving them their longest winning streak of the season.
Jake Meyers barely missed a grand slam in the first inning, driving a two-run double off the right-center field wall. Meyers extended his hitting streak to 14 games, which is tied for the longest active hitting streak in Triple A.
The Skeeters padded the lead in the fifth with a pair of two-run singles from Alex De Goti and Bryan De La Cruz. De La Cruz extended his hitting streak to 13 games, which is tied for the fourth-longest in Triple A. The Skeeters scored their final run of the night when a balk from El Paso right-hander Evan Miller scored De La Cruz.
De La Cruz finished the night 3-for-5, giving him a team-high five three-hit games this season.
Brett Conine recorded the win, throwing three scoreless innings in relief while allowing one hit and striking out three. Conine moved to 3-0 and is the first player on the Skeeters pitching staff to reach three wins this season. Right-hander Nivaldo Rodriguez started the contest and allowed one hit and an unearned run through three innings.
The Skeeters stole five bases to log their single-game high for the season. Meyers, De La Cruz, De Goti, Miguelangel Sierra and Lorenzo Quintana each stole a base.
Following a Wednesday off day, the Skeeters will begin a six-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday at Constellation Field. Right-hander Ryan Castellani will start for the Isotopes. The Skeeters have yet to name a starter.
