Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Wausau, Wis. - If the award for best pitching performance of the season is still on the table, Woodchucks ace Devin Skapura may have just become the front-runner for his performance against the Kingfish on Tuesday night.

Skapura took the mound for the Woodchucks and lasted 8.2 IP while giving up just four hits and one walk to arguably the best offense in the entire league. His efforts left him one pitch shy of a complete game shutout as Chance Simpson forced an Eric Filia fly out one pitch later to finish the deal.

Rico Garcia opposed him on the mound for the Kingfish and, frankly, had a very good performance. He worked six frames, waved five, and allowed two runs off of a home run to left smashed by Albee Weiss. Aside from that one mistake pitch, Garcia remained blemish-less the rest of the way. His successors, however, were not as effective. Shea Murray lasted 0.2 IP and gave up two runs. J.D. Nielsen gave up the same run total while working an entire inning, and Trevor Haas recorded one out to finish the evening for Kingfish pitching.

Offensively, the Kingfish were completely shut down. Aside from Zack Weigel, who notched a very impressive 3-4 performance, and R.J. Ybarra, who smacked a double in the eighth frame, no Kingfish batter was able to work his way into the hit column. Jeremy Vasquez drew the team's only walk, as the Kingfish were shutout by a final score of 6-0.

The Kingfish will take on the Woodchucks tomorrow night before returning home to face the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a two game series.
