Lucas Raley, Lake Bachar Named NWL All-Stars
July 14, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
The 2015 Northwoods League All-Star game is just a week away, and recently the league released the rosters for this game. Among the players who will be playing in the contest are two members of the Lakeshore Chinooks; Lucas Raley and Lake Bachar.
Raley, who hails from Hinckley, Ohio and plays his college ball at Lake Erie College just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, has been a consistent threat out of the Lakeshore lineup all season. Entering play on Tuesday, Raley had played in 47 of the Chinooks 49 games this season.
A rising junior at Lake Erie, Raley has carried a monster spring season over to Northwoods League play. He has posted a triple-slash line (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) of .319/.399/.589 on the season. Raley currently leads the NWL in home runs (11) and RBIs (40), is tied for third in triples (5) and is tied for third in games played (47).
Raley has also looked great on defense. He has had four outfield assists, which is tied for third in the NWL, and the threat of his great arm has consistently kept other teams from being aggressive on the basepaths. Raley has also made just two errors on the season and sports a .977 fielding percentage.
Bachar, meanwhile, comes from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, where he will be a sophomore next year. In eight starts spanning 46.2 innings this season, he has posted a 4-2 record with a 1.92 ERA. Bachar has also struck out 50 batters, good for third-most in the NWL, while allowing only 10 walks.
Opposing teams are hitting just .172 off of Bachar on the year, which is tied for the lowest mark in the league. He has also had an impressive 0.84 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched), meaning that, on average, he is allowing less than one baserunner per inning.
The Chinooks certainly have plenty of other players who you could have justified are worthy of an All-Star bid. That said, the team will be well-represented in Bachar and Raley, both of whom have been among the league's best players at their respective positions.
The All-Star game will take place on Tuesday, July 21st in Wisconsin Rapids at Witter Field.
There will be a home run challenge that will take place starting at 5:05 p.m., and the game itself will begin at 7:05 p.m.
