Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria Chiefs scored seven runs, all in the sixth inning, to knock off West Michigan 7-4 on Friday night. The Chiefs snapped a five-game losing streak and picked up their first win of the year against the East division foe.

The Whitecaps scored two in the first on a ground ball base hit to left field from Daniel Cabrera.

It was 3-0 West Michigan going to the top of the fifth when Bryant Packard homered to right center field and gave the Whitecaps a 4-0 advantage.

The Chiefs were held to just one hit entering the sixth inning when they sent eleven men to the plate and broke through for seven runs. Peoria had runners on the corners when a throwing error by West Michigan pitcher Jarrod Tobey opened the floodgates. Two batters later, Leandro Cedeno was walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-2. The next batter, Zade Richardson, was hit by a pitch to bring another run and get the Chiefs within a run. Then, with the bases still loaded, Francisco Hernandez cleared the bases with a triple and gave Peoria their first lead, 6-4. An RBI single from Matt Chamberlain capped off the inning.

From there, the bullpen pieced together the final nine outs, with three scoreless innings from Freddy Pacheco and Corey Thompson, who picked up his first save of the season.

The series continues tomorrow at 6:35. Nick Trogrlic-Iverson will start for the Chiefs. Keider Montero will toe the rubber for West Michigan. There will also be postgame fireworks following the contest.
