Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings fell in convincing fashion to the Beloit Snappers 9-1 on Wednesday night at Ashford University Field. Ryne Inman dominated on the mound for Clinton (24-28, 63-59) through the first half of the game before a Snappers (29-22, 61-59) six-run sixth inning broke a tie that but Beloit on top for good.

Inman (4-9) was the story through the first five innings on the mound. The right hander was working on a perfect game with two out and nobody on in the fifth only to have the first batter to reach against him come via a strikeout and wild pitch.

The game remained scoreless as the LumberKings failed to string hits together against either Snappers starter Brady Feigl or reliever Jean Ruiz. Clinton ended their night at the plate with just four hits to the Snappers 11.

Ruiz (5-9) earned the win for Beloit with six innings of relief work in which he did not allow a run while surrendering just two hits, walking none and striking out three.

In the top of the sixth, Beloit broke the scoreless tie with a six-run rally against Inman and reliever Matt Clancy. The Snappers sent 11 men to the plate to score their six runs but only needed five hits. Three walks and an error, committed by Juan Camacho, added to the Snappers biggest rally of the night.

Beloit added to their lead in the top of the eighth on a Miguel Mercedes solo home run to left, his third of the year, and then tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth.

Clinton avoided the shutout with an RBI single by Johnny Adams to right that scored Keegan McGivern who had reached on a hit-by-pitch.

The LumberKings will meet the Beloit Snappers for the second game of their three-game series on Thursday night. Clinton will throw right-hander Clay Chandler (7-3, 3.80) while the Snappers will counter with righty Gus Varland (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio ap at 6:15 PM with the pregame show.
