Linares' gem propels Hot Rods to 78th win of the season

MIDLAND, MI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods shutout the Great Lakes Loons on Wednesday evening, 6-0 at Dow Diamond. LHP Resly Linares threw seven innings of two-hit ball and 3B Zach Rutherford added in a two-run home run to help the visitors get the win.

The Hot Rods jumped on the Loons and their starter RHP Andre Jackson in the first inning. Bowling Green sent seven batters to the plate in a terrific opening frame. SS Taylor Walls led off with a double, and then scored two batters later when CF Carl Chester hit a triple to the wall in left-center, making it 1-0 Hot Rods. Chester came in to score on a DH Trey Hair single a few batters later. The Hair base knock was followed by a Rutherford line drive home run to left field, and it was 4-0 Hot Rods.

Linares allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the inning, but then retired the next 18 batters he faced.

In the fourth, RF Jake Stone doubled and then came in two batters later when 2B Justin Bridgman singled to right field, and it was 5-0.

Bowling Green added their final run of the night on a sac fly from 1B Devin Davis, scoring Chester, making the score 6-0 Hot Rods.

Linares earned the win, throwing seven innings. He allowed two hits, striking out seven.

The Hot Rods will look to win the series tomorrow night when they send out RHP Tobias Myers (10-5, 3.50). Great Lakes will counter with LHP John Rooney (0-0, 3.00). First pitch from Dow Diamond is set for 7:05pm Eastern time.
