Six-Run Second Carries Riders to Win in Game One
May 19, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, scored six runs in the second inning to win the first game of a doubleheader against the Midland RockHounds, 7-4, Thursday evening at Security Bank Ballpark.
All six runs in the second were unearned against Midland starter Joel Seddon (1-3) thanks to a pair of errors. The big damage came on a two-run double from Lewis Brinson and a two-run single one batter later from Isiah Kiner-Falefa that capped off the big inning.
The RockHounds (20-18) answered back with four runs in the bottom of the second, including a three-run home run from Oakland's top-ranked prospect Franklin Barreto, but Frisco starter Connor Sadzeck (5-0) retired 15 of the final 18 men he faced the rest of the way. He finished with a seven-inning complete game, the first of his career, allowing four runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out five to pick up the win.
The Riders (26-12) added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single from Kiner-Falefa, who extended his hit streak to six games with his ninth multi-hit game of the year. Kellin Deglan finished 2-for-2 with a double and a bases-loaded walk and two runs scored. Frisco clinched a series win with the victory and also picked up their third straight win, while handing Midland a fifth consecutive loss.
The second game of the doubleheader began shortly after 7:00 p.m. Lefty Victor Payano (4-1, 3.38 ERA) makes the start for the Riders, working against right-hander Corey Walter (0-1, 2.70 ERA). Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.
The RoughRiders next return home Friday to begin a four-game series against the San Antonio Missions. The homestand begins with Magic Night on the 20th, featuring Michael Grandinetti, and Saturday is Military Appreciation Night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tickets for those games, and the other two games of the homestand are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
