Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, will welcome Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish back to Dr Pepper Ballpark and celebrate Military Appreciation Night during the team's next homestand from Friday, May 20 through Monday, May 23. Beginning Friday night, the RoughRiders host the San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres) for four days in the club's fourth homestand of the season.

Highlighting the homestand is another chance for fans to see Rangers right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish make a rehabilitation start for the RoughRiders. Sunday, May 22, the three-time American League All-Star is expected to throw six innings or about 90 pitches in his fifth rehab start and third with the Riders this year. Darvish's first rehabilitation start in Frisco drew the fourth largest crowd in team history, as 11,842 fans packed Dr Pepper Ballpark on May 1. Military Appreciation Night coincides with National Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 21. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a free camouflage Riders t-shirt presented by ABC Pest and Lawn, and the team will don specialty camo jerseys that will be auctioned off to fans, with proceeds benefitting the USO DFW through the RoughRiders Foundation. The mission of USO is to lift the spirits of troops and their families by turning generosity into centers, programs, and services that reach troops in the most remote corners of the globe. All military branches will receive special recognition at the ballpark throughout the evening with ceremonies and on-field activities. There will also be military-themed inning breaks, in which service men and women are encouraged to participate.

Friday, May 20 literally will be a magical night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Riders welcome world-renowned magician Michael Grandinetti to entertain and mystify fans during the game and in the stands. In addition, Cowboys safety J.J. Wilcox will be taking batting practice, shagging fly balls, and throwing out a ceremonial first pitch before the game. Fans can watch Wilcox take batting practice on Periscope. Also, fans can go onto the field after the game to watch a spectacular post-game fireworks display.

The club will also celebrate a Kids Sunday Funday and Education Day on Monday. The Riders have the best record in the Texas League coming into this four-game series against the Missions beginning Friday night.
