Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

On Thursday night at Suplizio Field, the Missoula Osprey broke a 5-5 tie with a six-run ninth inning, helping them to an 11-6 win over the Grand Junction Rockies.

After Daniel Koger struck out Marcus Williams to start the inning, the next three men reached base, and Raymel Flores singled home a run to give Missoula the lead, and they added to it when two runners scored after Matt Jones reached on an error. After a walk loaded the bases, a wild pitch made it 9-5, then Isan Diaz capped the inning with a 2-run single.

Grand Junction committed four errors on the night, leading to eight unearned runs.

Kal Simmons singled home Matt McPhearson with two out in the second inning to give Missoula the lead, but Sam Hilliard got that run back with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the inning. Bobby Stahel gave the Rockies the lead when he hit the first home run of his career in the next inning, and Tyler Nevin made it 3-1 with an RBI double in the fourth, but the lead didn't last long.

Missoula scored four unearned runs in the fourth, the last three scoring on Raymel Flores' 3-run homer, but Jonathan Piron tied the game in the sixth with a 2-run shot, his team-high seventh of the season, but the Rockies didn't score until after the Osprey ninth inning.

Piron had three hits, while Collin Ferguson added a pair, but the Rockies come up on the short end for the fourth straight game, and fall below .500 (22-23) for the first time all season.
