Helena Brewers News Release
The Idaho Falls Chukars (6-1) won their sixth straight game with an 8-5 win on Thursday night against the Helena Brewers (2-5) at Kindrick Field.
Nate Griep (0-1) struggled in the first innings for Helena, giving up five runs on five hits. Nicholas Dini lined a two-RBI double to score Marten Gasparini and Josh Banuelos to lead the way. It was Dini's eighth double of the year.
The Brewers responded to the five-run deficit with runs in the second through fourth innings. Jake Gatewood hit his team-leading 16th double, scoring Steven Karkenny and David Denson on the hit.
Malik Collymore added a two-RBI double in the fourth with two outs. Collymore, appearing in just his second game in the Brewers' system, went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Helena's scoring would end after the fourth, however, as Josh Staumont (1-0) and Brandon Thomas tossed a combined five innings of shutout relief.
The Brewers and Chukars will face off Friday in the second game of their four-game series. First pitch from Helena is set for 7:05 p.m.
