ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Kansas City T-Bones scored first and never looked back in an 8-5 win over the St. Paul Saints in the finale of the four-game series Tuesday afternoon at Midway Stadium.
Kansas City, which has won two in a row, took an early 1-0 lead with Devin Goodwin's eighth home run of the season. The T-Bones then took full control in the fourth inning with a two-out, six-run frame. The scoring started with a bases-loaded two-run single from Joey Gathright, who has hit safely in four-straight games and five of his last six. During the inning, in which Kansas City sent 11 to the plate, there were five singles and three walks - and no extra-base hits. The result gave the T-Bones a 7-0 lead, which was more than starter Shaun Garceau needed.
Garceau (3-6), who's won three of his last four outings, gave up seven hits and three earned runs in six innings.
St. Paul's best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Saints scored two off of T-Bones reliever Justin Albert, but left two men on base. Sean Toler picked up his second save with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
Jairo Perez went three for four with a walk for the T-Bones.
After splitting the four-game series at St. Paul, Kansas City (19-32) now gets set for four games against division-leading Wichita, with the first two in Wichita on Wednesday and Thursday, and the final two in Kansas City on Friday and Saturday. All four games are scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
