St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - After 50 games of the 2013 season the St. Paul Saints are right where they started, the same amount of wins and losses, 25-25. On Tuesday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 3,859 they lost 8-5 to the Kansas City T-Bones and split the four game series.
Devin Goodwin got things started for the T-Bones with a solo homer to center in the third, his eighth of the season, to make it 1-0.
It all fell apart for the Saints in the fourth as the T-Bones put up six runs with two outs. Petey Paramore and Jairo Perez singled with one out. Then with two outs Saints starter Dylan Thomas walked .232 hitter Steve Yoo to load the bases which brought up former Major Leaguer Joey Gathright. Gathright made Thomas pay with a two-run single to right making it 3-0. Kennard Jones followed with an RBI single that made it 4-0. After Thomas walked Devin Goodwin to load the bases, Thomas was lifted for reliever Aaron Correa. He walked Matt Padgett to force in a run and make it 5-0. Kyle Nichols finished the scoring with a two-run single making it 7-0.
The Saints answered with two in the bottom of the fourth when Willie Cabrera led off with a single. He finished the day 4-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. With one out Ole Sheldon walked. Jose Hernandez got the Saints on the board with an RBI double that made it 7-1. Hernandez finished the game 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Dwight Childs RBI groundout made it 7-2.
The Saints may have found a reliable reliever as Drew Gay made his professional debut. The rookie from Aurora (IL) University worked 4.0 hitless, shutout innings walking two and striking out one. He gave up leadoff walks in each of his first two innings of relief, but didn't give up anything else.
The Saints take Wednesday off and begin a four game series against the Grand Prairie AirHogs on Thursday evening at QuikTrip Park at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Mark Hamburger (2-2, 5.01) to the mound against AirHogs RHP Derek Blacksher (5-4, 5.04). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
