Loggins Marches T-Bones Past Saints
July 9, 2013 - American Association (AA)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - In their 50th game of the season, the Kansas City T-Bones gave starting pitcher Dustin Loggins a three-run third inning, and that's all he needed in a 5-2 win over the St. Paul Saints on Monday night at Midway Stadium.
Kansas City scored three in the top of the third inning on five straights singles from Joey Gathright, Kennard Jones, Devin Goodwin, Matt Padgett and Kyle Nichols.
That's all the help Loggins (2-2) needed. In his third start, the converted reliever Loggins struck out five and scattered seven hits over seven innings. Two innings after Loggins' exit, Chad Robinson gave up one hit in an otherwise perfect ninth for his second save of the season.
Offensively, four T-Bones had multi-hit games, led by Nichols, who went three for five with three RBIs. It's his third multi-hit game since joining the T-Bones on July 4. Joining Nichols with more than one hit were Gathright, Jones and Padgett, who, on the day he was announced as the American Association's hitter of the week, went two for three with a single, double and two walks.
Although Kansas City added solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings, St. Paul starter Anthony Claggett (5-2) settled down after the third.
Kansas City (18-32), which snapped a three-game losing streak, will look to even the series with St. Paul in the fourth and final game Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
