Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Despite committing six errors in the field, the Lancaster JetHawks stopped Rancho Cucamonga's season-high six-game winning streak, defeating the Quakes on Tuesday night by a score of 10-5 at LoanMart Field.

The presence of Dodgers' rehabbing outfielder Yasiel Puig provided plenty of excitement for more than 2,000 fans in attendance, as he finished with a hit and a walk in two plate appearances, but it was a late JetHawks' rally over the final three innings that spoiled it and sent Rancho to their first loss in a week and two games back of High Desert, with just five to play in the first half.

The game was a pitcher's duel for the first four innings, as both starters hurled scoreless baseball. Quakes' starter Andrew Sopko gave up a pair of runs in the fifth, as the JetHawks claimed a 2-0 lead.

Johan Mieses opened the fifth against eventual winner Josh James (5-2) with a long homer to center field, his 11th of the year to make it 2-1.

The Quakes took the lead in the sixth, as they scored a run on an error to tie the game at 2-2, then grabbed the lead when Matt Beaty reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Tim Locastro to make it 3-2.

Chris Anderson (1-1) took over in the seventh and struggled for the Quakes, as he gave up three hits and a walk and suffered from one of three Rancho Cucamonga errors on the night, as the JetHawks took the lead for good by scoring four times to go up, 6-3.

Lancaster got to reliever Philip Pfeifer for three more in the eighth, taking a commanding 9-3 advantage.

Rancho got two back in the eighth, as Joey Curletta singled home a pair of runs, making it 9-5.

The JetHawks got the final run in the ninth to put it away, as Ramon Laureano, who knocked in four runs on Tuesday, singled home Bobby Boyd, making it 10-5 against Quakes' reliever Jeff Malm.

Now two games out in the South with just five to go, the Quakes (40-25) will send Yaisel Sierra (4-3) to the mound on Wednesday, in the rubber-game of the three-game set. Lancaster will counter with Trent Thornton (2-3) in the series-finale. Wednesday will be another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as fans can purchase a $3 Pet Pass and bring their pets to the game. Proceeds will benefit the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Shelter. Game time is set for 7:00pm and tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or rcquakes.com.
