Rawhide Pull out Late Win, 8-3
June 15, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
The visiting Visalia Rawhide clinched the First Half Title with a win at Sam Lynn Ballpark, defeating the Bakersfield Blaze 8-3, with MLB pitcher Shelby Miller on the hill.
The ballgame featured Blaze Hitting Coach Max Venable running the club while Eddie Menchaca served his one-game suspension.
Shelby Miller (W, 2-0) worked 6.0 innings on the night, striking out eight while allowing three runs, one of which was earned.
The Blaze continued to fight, falling behind early 3-0, but immediately cut the deficit to 3-2 before the Rawhide pushed back in front 5-2.
From there, Blaze starter Eddie Campbell (L, 6-5) settled in, not allowing a ball out of the infield from the middle of the 3rd inning. In all, Campbell worked 7.0 innings, following up his 8.0-inning gem from last week with another solid effort, but on this Tuesday night, it was not enough.
Gabe Speier pitched the final three innings for Visalia to pick up his first save of the year.
For Bakersfield on offense, Drew Jackson, Daniel Torres and Joe DeCarlo each came up with RBI singles off of Miller, a fine feather in the cap of a young ballplayer going up against a seasoned Major League starter.
The series and homestand conclude on Winning Wednesday at 7:45pm.
