Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped the opener of a three-game homestand on Friday, losing 6-3 to Sioux Falls at Haymarket Park. Lincoln falls to 1-3 on the second half of the season.

The Canaries scored all six of their runs in the first two innings against Saltdogs starter Jarrett Gardner (6-4). In the first inning, Trevor Lawhorn hit a two-out, two-run double, and Patrick Reilly followed with a run-scoring double of his own. In the second inning, Tim Hutting cracked a three-run homer to give Sioux Falls a comfortable 6-0 lead.

Lincoln tried to launch a comeback against Sioux Falls starter Ben Moore (4-5), starting in the bottom of the second inning. Shea McFeely came up big in the frame, hitting a two-out, two-run single to cut the Canaries lead to four. Two innings later, Pichi Balet doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Shawn McGill RBI groundout. Moore, however, would allow just one more hit the rest of the way, tossing a complete game. Gardner also settled down after the second inning, pitching five scoreless frames to complete his night, but suffered his fourth loss of the year.

Balet had the only multi-hit night for the Saltdogs, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Lincoln managed just five hits overall. On the mound, Forrest Cory returned from over a month on the disabled list to toss a perfect ninth inning, striking out two of the three hitters he faced. Behind the plate, McGill gunned down both Sioux Falls runners that tried to steal second on him.

Lincoln will try to even the series against the Canaries Saturday night at 7:05. Lefty Jonathan Figueroa will make the start for the Saltdogs.
