Silvertips Season Tomahawked by Portland

Everett, WA - The Portland Winterhawks advanced to the next round of the WHL playoffs after defeating the Silvertips 6-2 Thursday night and winning the best of seven series 4-0. Jari Erricson (1G, 1A) and Manraj Hayer (1G, 1A) had two points each for the Silvertips Thursday night. Luke Siemens made 38 saves for Everett.

The Silvertips scored the first goal of the game at 5:22 of the first period. Erricson scored his first career WHL playoff goal after putting home a loose puck in the crease past Mac Carruth for a 1-0 Everett lead. Portland ties the score at 1:29. Taylor Peters collected a rebound on top of the crease after a Brendan Leipsic shot rang off the post to make the score 1-1. Riley Boychuk scored on a 5 on 3 man advantage at 18:51 making the score 2-1 in favor of Portland.

Craig Cunningham scored his third goal of the post season just 45 seconds into the second period. Cunningham redirected a Ty Rattie pass backdoor to give the Winterhawks a 3-1 lead. Sven Bartschi increased Portland's lead to 4-1 with his second of the post season at 4:10. Joe Morrow, 29 seconds later, made the score 5-1 in favor of Portland. Morrow scored with a hard wrist shot from the top left point that beat Siemens high
