Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants season has come to an end, losing 5-1 to the Tri- City Americans Wednesday night at the Pacific Coliseum in front of 7,064 fans. With the victory the Americans swept the best of seven Western Conference Quarter-Final and advance to the second round. It is only the second time in franchise history the Giants have lost four straight games in a playoff series.

Tri-City got on the board first just 2:11 into the game. However, Brendan Gallagher would even the score with his 2nd of the post season seven minutes later. The Americans though would restore their lead on a late power play to go up 2-1 through 20 minutes of play.

Just like in Game 3, scoring chances were at a premier, especially in the second period. Neither team was able to find the back of the net. Shots were 19-10 in favour of Tri-City after 40 minutes.

Down a goal heading into the third period, the Giants tried to put on some pressure early in the frame, but were unable to solve Drew Owsley. Eventually Justin Feser beat Mark Segal to give the Americans a 3-1 lead. They would add two more goals to make it a 5-1 final. Tri- City wins the series 4-0. Mark Segal allowed 4 goals on 24 shots, while Brendan Jensen, who replaced him midway through the third period, gave up 1 goal on 4 shots.

Be sure to tune into the final episode of the Giant Hockey Hour tomorrow night beginning at 6:00pm on AM 650. Dan Elliott will talk with Head Coach Don Hay and General Manager Scott Bonner about the season that was and what they expect in the future.
