
Portland Defeats Everett, 5-4

Everett, WA ¬" The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Silvertips in a closely contested game Wednesday night 5-4. Rasmus Rissanen led the scoring charge with two goals for the ¬ËTips. Ryan Murray had a goal and two assists for Everett while Tyler Maxwell rounded out the scoring. Landon Ferraro had three assists and Josh Birkholz had two assists for the Silvertips. Maxwell ¬â¢s power play goal Wednesday night ties him for most in Silvertips post-season franchise history with Peter Mueller at five. Luke Siemens made 45 saves in goal for Everett. Sven Bartschi led Portland ¬â¢s offense with a three point game (1G, 2A). Game four comes back to Everett Thursday night at 7:05 pm.
Sven Bartschi scored Portland ¬â¢s first goal of the night at 4:21 of the first period. Bartschi collected his first goal of the playoffs after finding a loose puck in the slot and beating Siemens five-hole through traffic. Murray tied the game up at 14:41 for his first playoff goal. Maxwell made a great feed to Murray who came down the slot before stick handling past Portland goalie Mac Carruth to make the score 1-1. Brad Ross gave Portland a 2-1 lead just 27 seconds later. Ross rushed out of the penalty box and went in on a breakaway from a Nino Niederreiter pass before beating Siemens glove side at 15:08. Maxwell tied the score for Everett on the power play at 19:18. Ferraro found Maxwell backdoor on the crease as he beat Carruth five-hole to make the score 2-2 at the end of the first period.
Rissanen gave Everett their first lead of the game at 9:40 of the second period. Scoring on the power play, Rissanen found a loose puck in the right circle before beating Carruth five-hole to give the ¬ËTips a 3-2 lead. Niederreiter scored his third goal of the playoffs at 17:14 to tie the score 3-3. Bartschi gave a pass through the crease to Niederreiter for a tap in goal. Ty Rattie gave the Winterhawks a 4-3 lead just 13 seconds later with his first of the playoffs.
Bartschi was awarded a penalty shot at 5:06 of the third period. Siemens stopped Bartschi ¬â¢s attempt to go five-hole keeping the score at 4-3. Ryan Johansen scored his second of the playoffs at 14:00. Johansen cut hard to the Everett net before going top-shelf over Siemens blocker to make the score 5-3. Rissanen scored his second of the night with a hard slap shot from the right point that beat Carruth five-hole to make the score 5-4. Siemens was pulled with 1:05 left in regulation for an extra attacker. Everett created scoring chances but the Winterhawks held on to a 5-4 win.
