Silvertips Rally Late to Gain OT Victory

March 2, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Bryce Kindopp buried the game-winning goal with 48.6 seconds left in regulation, following Zack Andruisak's game-tying goal with under 10 minutes left, as the Everett Silvertips defeat the Tri-City Americans, 2-1, before 6,633 fans at A.O.T.W. Arena on Friday night in U.S. Division action.

The Silvertips hammered visiting goaltender Beck Warm with a franchise-record 62 total shots on goal. On the other side of the ice, Dustin Wolf broke a franchise record with his 38th win of the season, surpassing Leland Irving's 37-win season in 2005-2006.

"I thought we played a great hockey game from start to finish," Head Coach Dennis Williams said. "We skated well, possessed the puck well; a hard time finding the net but I thought we played really well."

The Tips also moved to make progress in clarifying their playoff picture, reducing their magic number to two points for a clinch of home ice advantage in the opening round and five points for the U.S. Division title.

UP NEXT: The Tips return to action tomorrow, March 2, for Navy Night against the Seattle Thunderbirds for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / TuneIn App / WHL Live). A large crowd is expected in attendance and an extremely limited amount of tickets are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.

Tri-City took a 1-0 lead at 7:25 in the first, where defenseman Tom Cadieux won a battle along the boards and found winger Nolan Yaremko who stepped up in the slot and landed a wrist shot from the right circle past Wolf.

Despite the score, the Silvertips dominated in offensive zone with 22 shots on goal in the first, compared to Tri-City's 10 shots.

In a scoreless second period, Everett's offensive pressure continued as they landed 23 shots, totaling with 45 shots through 40 minutes of play. Wolf stopped all nine shots he faced in the second, including a huge blocker save on a Yaremko breakaway.

After 56 shots on goal, Andrusiak netted the game-tying goal at 9:40 into the third. Kindopp found defenseman Wyatte Wylie behind the Ams net, who slung a pass crease front to Andrusiak with a one-timed finish on the glove side of Warm.

After a Silvertips timeout with over a minute to go, Kindopp drilled the game-winner. Everett captain Connor Dewar picked up the puck in the corner to feed defenseman Artyom Minulin, who blasted a shot from the point, which created a rebound off the Warm's pad and stashed away by Kindopp, wide open at the left circle.
