PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars are still in search of their first win out of the Christmas break, after a 4-2 setback to the Everett Silvertips at the CN Centre, Wednesday.
Everett swept the midweek doubleheader as they won 6-5 in overtime on Tuesday night.
"I thought we were a step behind the entire game. We got outworked the whole night," commented Cougars' General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb. "Our compete level wasn't where it needed to be."
The difference was a four-goal second period for the Silvertips. After a scoreless opening frame, Everett scored four times on 13 shots in the middle stanza, including three power play goals to go up 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Bauer Dumanski and Koehn Ziemmer scored in the third period to cut the deficit in half, but the Cougars couldn't complete the comeback.
Tyler Brennan, who made his first start since December 10th after returning from an injury, turned aside 24 of 28 shots.
Everett's Niko Huuhtanen put together his second consecutive four-point night, as he finished with a goal and three assists. Ryan Hofer and a pair of goals and three points for Everett. Goaltender Koehn MacInnes stopped 31 of 33 shots to earn the win in the Silvertips' crease.
Forwards Carlin Dezainde and Cayden Glover made their Cougars debut after being acquired from Medicine Hat on Tuesday in a three-team trade. Wednesday was not only Dezainde's first game as a Cougar, but he also celebrated his 17th birthday.
