Silvertips Acquire D Carter Stephenson from Victoria in Exchange for D Jordan Wharrie

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips and general manager Garry Davidson announced today that the team has acquired prospect defenseman Carter Stephenson from the Victoria Royals, in exchange for defenseman Jordan Wharrie.

Stephenson, 17, spent last season primarily with the Vancouver Northwest Giants (BCMML) and led the club's defensemen in goals (6), additionally ranking second among all blueliners in scoring with 28 points in 40 games. The 6-foot, 180-pound defenseman also skated in one game last season with the Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL) and was originally selected by Victoria in the ninth round (187th overall) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Wharrie, 18, leaves the Silvertips after posting two goals and two assists in 50 games last season, additionally collecting a goal and an assist in 11 postseason games. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defenseman made his Silvertips debut in 2013-14 with two penalty minutes in seven games.

The Silvertips return to play Thursday for Tri-City's preseason tournament, facing the Prince George Cougars at 11:00 a.m. The next Silvertips preseason home game is Saturday, Sept. 19, a 7:05 p.m. face-off against the Victoria Royals at XFINITY Arena.
