EDMONTON, ALTA. - Five members of the Edmonton Oil Kings will jet off for NHL training camps this week.
Forwards Brett Pollock and Brandon Baddock, defencemen Dysin Mayo and Aaron Irving and goaltender Alec Dillon will all head to various camps beginning this week.
Pollock, a second round pick of the Dallas Stars (45th overall), will head to Texas for his second training camp with the Stars. The 19-year-old winger is expected to take part in the Traverse City, Mich. prospect tournament.
Baddock will join the New Jersey Devils for his second training camp with the team after they selected him in the sixth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (161st overall). The 20-year-old forward from Vermilion, Alta. will join the Devils for a tournament against the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins in Buffalo.
Mayo, a fifth round selection in 2014 (133rd overall), will join the Arizona Coyotes for rookie camp this week, reuniting with Coyotes prospect and former Oil King Henrik Samuelsson. Mayo and the Coyotes will head to Los Angeles for back-to-back games with the Kings prospects.
Those games will also feature Oil Kings netminder Alec Dillon, a fellow Victoria native and Mayo's good friend. Dillon, 19, was Los Angeles' fifth round pick, 150th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft. Dillon and the Kings will play the aforementioned games against the Coyotes on Sept. 15 and 16.
Irving, who was taken by the Nashville Predators one spot after Baddock in the 2014 draft, will join the Predators for his second training camp. The 19-year-old blueliner from Edmonton and the Predators will play in the Tampa Bay rookie tournament against the Lightning, Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals.
