Sides & Marto Among Four Players Re-Assigned to Eagles
October 8, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL, proud affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets & the AHL's St. John's IceCaps, announced today that four players have been assigned to them through their affiliations. Forwards Joey Sides & Norm Ezekiel and defensemen Jake Marto & Cody Sol will be added to Colorado's roster; both Sides & Marto spent part of last season with the Eagles, while Ezekiel & Sol are both entering their first pro season.
Sides joined the Eagles midway through last season and registered 29 points (15-14-29) in as many games to go along with 45 penalty minutes. Following Colorado's exit from the ECHL playoffs, he joined the IceCaps but did not appear in any games. In 152 pro games, the feisty forward has accumulated 127 points (59-68-127) and 264 PIMs.
Marto spent his rookie campaign bouncing between the IceCaps & Eagles, receiving three call-ups during the season before, like Sides, also joining the AHL roster without seeing any game action after Colorado's elimination from the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He recorded 16 points (2-14-16) in 42 games with the Eagles & three assists in 12 games with the IceCaps.
Sol is a former 5th round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers (#125 overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The blueliner brings a well-rounded resume to the Eagles, possessing good size (6-feet-4-inches, 214 pounds), quality point production (76 points (27-49-76) in 255 OHL games) & plenty of toughness (577 PIMs, ranking 1st or 2nd on his team in each of his four OHL seasons).
Ezekiel, although small in stature (5-foot-8-inches, 185-pounds), has shown plenty of heart, leading his teams in penalty minutes in each of the past three seasons. During the past two seasons with the OHL's Barrie Colts, the defenseman totaled 262 PIMs in 124 games.
The 2012-13 season starts Friday when the Eagles take on the Alaska Aces in the first of back-to-back games at the Budweiser Events Center. Tickets for all Eagles home games can be purchased at www.ComcastTix.com, the Budweiser Events Center box office, or by calling 1-877-544-TIXX (8499) or 970-686-SHOT (7468).
