IceMen Launch ECHL Debut Saturday Night

ECHL DEBUT: The IceMen launch their debuting season in the ECHL this Saturday night as the ECHL formally inaugurates its 25th Anniversary Season. This Saturday night, the IceMen will play host to their principal archrivals, the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:15 pm at the Ford Center. This marks the second consecutive year in which the IceMen have broached their home schedule by hosting their Indiana opposition. Last year, in the first-ever pro hockey game played at the brand-new Ford Center, the IceMen dispatched the Komets, 3-1 before a crowd approaching 9,000 fans.

HOME OPENING NIGHT: On their home opening night this Saturday against Fort Wayne, the IceMen are treating their growing fond following of faithful fans with some excellent giveaway items. Everyone in attendance receives a free IceMen Magnet Schedule as well as an IceMen window-cling decal. This is the lone IceMen appearance for the inaugural weekend of the ECHL's 25th Anniversary Season.

"ICEMEN LIVE PRESENTED BY COORS LIGHT:" For a third consecutive year, the IceMen ever-popular two hour Monday night radio show has returned. "The Voice of the IceMen," Terry Ficorelli hosts from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, live from Show-Me's East on WEOA-FM 98.5 and WEOA-AM 1400 and 1400amweoa.com. IceMen special guests this week are veteran defenseman Daniel Tetrault and center Dale Mahovsky.

PRE-SEASON SYNOPSIS: The past weekend in the only ECHL pre-season game activity, from Fort Wayne, the IceMen spirited away 3 of a possible 4-points by engineering a 2(1-0-1) mark. In game #1 Saturday night, the IceMen dominated in a 6-3 victory verdict. With General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm deploying predominantly a bevy of training camp tryout candidates, the IceMen dominated the proceedings as newcomers Dylan Gilbert and Tommy Lange each struck for a pair of snipes while Aaron McGill and Domenic Recchia also made connection. Dale Mahovsky, Bill Baker and Colin Reddin each assisted twice. Paul Karpowich and Peter Skoggard shared the goalkeeping duties. In the encore presentation staged on Sunday, same place, the Komets garnered the bonus point by virtue of a 2-1 OT triumph. Thirteen-year veteran defenseman Daniel Tetrault equalized the contest dramatically, on the impetus of the GTG with only 3:03 remaining in regulation time to set the stage for the harrowing climax which resulted in a Fort Wayne PPG in the extra session.

PRE-SEASON SCORING ACES: The IceMen leading scorers in the two pre-season outings were: 1-Dylan Gilbert 2(2-1-3)PPG; 2-Tommy Lange 2(2-0-2)GWG; A. McGill 2(1-1-2); 3-Bill Baker 2(0-2-2); Dale Mahovsky 2(0-2-2); Colin Reddin 2(0-2-2); Domenic Recchia 1(1-0-1); Daniel Tetrault 1(1-0-1). Through 2-starts, rookie goalkeeper Paul Karpowich was superlative, grudgingly surrendering a minuscule 3-GA for GAA of 1.94 and SPCT of .948.

SPECIAL TEAMS TIMING: In their two pre-season outings, the IceMen power play was 1-12 for a proficiency rating of 8.3%. The IceMen shorthand band was 11-14 for an efficiency mark of 78.6%. Evansville was 0 for its last 10 in the extra man situation.

MILESTONES IN THE MAKING: Todd Robinson (892) is 8-assists away from pro career 900, having averaged over an assist a game throughout his distinguished career. Robinson has actually garnered more assists (892) then games played (871). His 1,226 career points give him a per game point average of a majestic 1.41. Robinson is seeking his fifth league scoring crown which would be his fourth one in the last five years and his fifth in the past seven campaigns. On opening night, Saturday night against Fort Wayne, veteran defenseman Philippe Plante will play pro career game #850.

FEW FUN FAST FACTS FROM "FIC": Last year on opening night in Fort Wayne, the IceMen ambushed the Komets, 5-0 before performing an encore in their home opening night affair, at the Ford Center, 3-1. Left wing Josh Beaulieu made Evansville hockey history that night, delivering the first goal in Ford Center annals on a power play at 2:42 of the opening period. The IceMen were 13(6-6-1) against the Komets last season, capturing the last 3-sessions in a row and 4 of the last 5-confrontations; last 5(4-1-0). The IceMen opened last season with a scintillating 7-game undefeated streak; 7(6-0-1) and 6-game undefeated streak on the road; 6(5-0-1). Since establishing their hockey AA status, the IceMen are 2(1-1-0) on opening night.
