Stingrays Win Overtime Thriller at the Ice Palace

North Charleston, S.C. - Defenseman Ryan Turek scored the game-winning goal in overtime and goaltender John Havrilack made seven saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays (2-0-0-0) to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Greenville Road Warriors (0-2-0-0) Monday night at the Carolina Ice Palace in North Charleston.
After a scoreless first period, the Road Warriors grabbed the opening goal at 4:10 of the second frame with a tally from forward Jordie Johnston . Forward Nicolas Tremblay added an assist. Stingrays forward Alex MacLeod tied the contest at 9:02 slipping a shot under the pads of Road Warriors goaltender Bryan Hince (15 saves on 16 shots). Forwards Andrew Sackrison and Justin Courtnall picked up assists. Hince would leave the game with an injury and be replaced by Adam Courchaine (L, 12 saves on 14 shots). Greenville made it 2-1 moments later when forward Ashton Rome beat Stingrays netminder Shawn Hunwick (13 saves on 15 shots) with help from forward Tim Coffman at 11:53.
Havrilack (W, 7 saves on 7 shots) stepped in for Hunwick at the start of the third period.
Stingrays forward Hunter Bishop knotted the contest back up at 12:27 of the third period beating Courchaine under the blocker. Defensemen Luka Vidmar and Casey Fazekas recorded assists. Turek sealed the victory with six seconds left in overtime with forward Mike Hamilton registering the lone assist. The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-3.
