
Legendary Hockey Announcer Lends Voice to Opening Night Ceremony

Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that Emmy-award winning Broadcaster Mike "Doc" Emrick will voice the Solar Bears special [image: Mike]Opening Night video at the Amway Center on Saturday, October 20. Fans should plan to get to their seats early for the special opening night pre-game show scheduled to begin at approximately 6:45 p.m.
"It is fun to be involved in an exciting project like the launch of a new team!" said Emrick. "I wish the Solar Bears players, staff, and fans a successful season and many hockey memories in the making."
Emrick has been covering the NHL for 32 seasons, including 21 seasons as the television voice of the New Jersey Devils. Last December, Emrick became the first-ever broadcaster inducted in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, and also became the first hockey broadcaster to win an Emmy Award for best sports play-by-play personality when he received the honor in May of 2011. He received the 2004 Lester Patrick Award for service to hockey in the United States, won the 1999 Cable Ace Award for best play-by-play sportscaster nationally, and has captured the New York region Emmy for on-camera achievement seven times.
The award-winning broadcaster has been featured as a TV voice in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs for 24 consecutive seasons, as well as 13 NHL Stanley Cup Final series and 10 NHL All-Star games. Emrick served as the lead announcer for both men's and women's hockey in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and he was part of NBC's broadcast team during this year's Summer Olympics. His voice has been featured on segments for "Hockey Week", "NHL Power Week", and the NHL's Stanley Cup video.

The Orlando Solar Bears, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and AHL's Houston Aeros, are coming Out of Hibernation and will play 36 regular season home games at the 2012 Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year, the Amway Center, beginning October 20, 2012.
