39,000 Students Enroll in Second Season of "Reading Wranglers"
October 8, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Building on the success of last year's inaugural program, the Las Vegas Wranglers and The Public Education Foundation's Clark County READS program announced today the return of the "Reading Wranglers" program, a partnership designed to encourage good reading habits in elementary schools across the county.
The "Reading Wranglers" program rewards students with various community-donated prizes for meeting daily reading requirements over the course of six weeks. Launching in 66 elementary schools this morning, almost 39,000 students across Clark County have signed up to participate, a significant increase from the 22,000 students who enrolled in the program last year. Kindergarten through second grade-level students are required to independently read for a minimum of 10 minutes a day, and third - fifth grade students must read at least 20 minutes every day.
At the end of the six-week program, the efforts of all the teachers and students will be celebrated at the Wranglers game on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:05 p.m. During an on-ice ceremony, 10 students and one teacher who complete the "Reading Wranglers" program will be drawn at random to receive their own Amazon Kindle, courtesy of the Wranglers.
Students will receive prizes thanks to donations from Nothing Bundt Cakes, Coast Bowling Centers, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, YMCA of Southern Nevada, Del Taco and the Wranglers. Silver State Schools Credit Union has also signed on as a youth involvement partner to help make the program a success, and supplies were donated by Staples.
Celebrating 10 seasons of Wranglers hockey this year, 2012-13 ticket plans are on sale now. Packages start at $93 and can be customized for five, 12 or 22-game plans. Full season tickets come with benefits including buddy passes, exclusive events, a team shop discount and more. Take advantage of the best deals by calling the Wranglers front office at (702) 471-PUCK . The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at Orleans Arena, located next to the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
