Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports rode one big swing of the bat to a win on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Brett Siddall's three-run homer with two outs in the fourth inning was all the Ports needed to salvage the final game of a three-game series with the Modesto Nuts as Stockton escaped with a 3-2 victory.

Modesto, for a third straight game, scored in the top of the first inning as Anthony Jimenez doubled to open the game and scored on back-to-back groundouts, the second one off the bat of Evan White, to give the Nuts a 1-0 lead.

Stockton was held out of the run column until the fourth inning. After Luke Persico had been thrown out at home plate on a fielder's choice play to leave runners at first and second with two outs, Siddall came up and delivered a three-run homer to the back porch in right field that gave the Ports a 3-1 lead. It was the only mistake made by Nuts starter Austin Hutchison (1-3), who suffered the loss after going 5.2 innings and allowing six hits while striking out seven.

Ports starter Matt Milburn (7-4) saw Kevin Santa reach on an error to open the sixth inning. Santa would go on to score later in the inning when Jack Larsen hit into a 1-6-3 double-play, cutting the Stockton lead to 3-2. It was the final run allowed by Milburn, who earned the win after going seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out five.

After a scoreless eighth inning worked by Andrew Tomasovich, Angel Duno (SV, 13) took over in the ninth and issued a leadoff walk to Larsen. Gareth Morgan followed with a double to the left field corner on which Larsen tried to score. Larsen, though, was thrown out at the plate on a relay throw by Eric Marinez to keep the 3-2 lead intact. Morgan wound up at third and stayed there as Joe Rizzo grounded out to first for the second out of the inning. After Nick Zammarelli worked a walk, Nick Thurman struck out swinging to close out the contest, netting Duno his 13th save of the season.

The Ports embark on a six-game road trip beginning with the opener of a three-game series on Friday night in Visalia. Right-hander Wyatt Marks (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his California League debut for Stockton, opposed by Rawhide right-hander Connor Grey (8-7, 5.43 ERA). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. PDT.
