Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Ty Culbreth delivered one of his best performances of the season but ended up on the wrong end of the decision as the JetHawks fell to the Inland Empire 66ers, 1-0, on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Culbreth (5-6) allowed a run in the first inning on back-to-back two-out doubles from Brendan Sanger and Julian Leon. It would end up being the only run of the game. The lefty settled in to retire the next 11 batters and 16 of the next 17, but Lancaster's offense couldn't push across a run of support.
Matt Ball (4-1) allowed three hits and struck out six over five scoreless frames. Brett Hanewich and Isaac Mattson followed with two hitless innings apiece to finish off the rubber-game win for the 66ers (56-55, 23-18). Mattson earned his first save.
Culbreth tied a career-high with eight strikeouts over his seven innings. He allowed the one run on five hits with one walk.
The JetHawks (57-54, 24-17) had just one hit through the first four innings before starting the fifth with back-to-back hits from Vince Fernandez and Luis Castro. Ball responded by retiring the next three batters to strand the runners. Lancaster didn't have another reach base the rest of the way.
With the loss, the JetHawks saw their season-long four-game series win streak come to an end.
The game took one hour and 57 minutes to play making it the shortest of the season for the JetHawks.
The club begins a three-game series at home against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night. Logan Longwith (2-4) gets the start for Lancaster. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
