Shorthanded Express Get Help from Bench in Victory
(MONCTON, NB) Shorthanded and on a three game losing streak, the Windsor Express dug deep to earn a 98-93 victory over the Moncton Miracles on Sunday afternoon and salvaged one game of their east coast trip.
Windsor (14-7) had previously lost to the Island Storm and Saint John Mill Rats in back-to-back nights and were playing without guards, Gary Gibson and Quinnel Brown.
But the bench stepped up.
Josh Collins (15) and Erik Parker (10) had season highs in points and Ryan Anderson dropped a team high 19 in his first start of the year for the Express.
Windsor opened the game slowly again this afternoon, falling behind 10-2 very early, but came back to win the quarter 22-19.
The second swung back in Moncton's (6-14) favour, bringing the teams to the locker room at halftime with a 41-39 Windsor advantage.
It was a tale of two quarters in the second half, with the Express outscoring Moncton 33-23 in the third and at one point expanding their lead to 84-64 in the fourth quarter.
But the Miracles returned the favour with a late-game push, bringing the game within three points with 26 seconds left before Kevin Loiselle nailed two free throws to end the threat.
Loiselle also made his first start of the season, playing just over 40 minutes and adding 16 points and 10 rebounds.
