Mississauga Power News Release
(London, ON - ) The Mississauga Power hit the road this afternoon, looking to snap a 10-game losing streak. Despite a strong start and a close game, the Power were not able to hang on for a win, losing 98-90. Tyrone Garland led the Power with 18 points and 5 assists. Warren Ward continues to be solid with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
London got off to a strong start, holding the Power at bay while continuing to build a lead. The Power's second unit came in at the four minute mark and immediately made an impact to help the Power battle back. The Power would go on a 12-5 run in the last four minutes of the quarter, taking the 30-25 lead at the end of the first.
The Power tried to hang on to the lead in the second but the Lightning came out of the quarter break with a renewed energy, taking the lead from the visitors three minutes into the quarter. The Lightning would not look back and continued to build on a lead in the second en route to a 30-18 quarter, taking a 55-48 lead after one half.
The Power started strong in the third, going on a 7-2 run to get to within two points of the Lightning. The two teams would then continue to exchange baskets with neither taking an advantage. The Power would narrowly edge the Lightning by two points in the quarter, cutting the Lightning lead to five heading into the final quarter.
Both teams clamped down defensively at the start of the fourth. Neither team would make a basket until five minutes had past. The teams would battle evenly, with the Power getting as close as three points. The Power did not have enough tank in the gas as the Lightning held on for the eight point win.
The Power will have a three game home stand beginning January 22nd against the Halifax Rainmen. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
