
Shorthanded Earthquakes Fall to Rapids 2-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes lost 2-1 against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Quakes struck first with a goal by Joey Gjertsen in the 22nd minute, but Colorado rallied with a penalty in the 39th minutes by Caleb Folan and free-kick strike by Jeff Larentowicz in the 72nd minute. The Earthquakes played a man down after Sam Cronin was sent off with a straight red card in the 50th minute.
Jason Hernandez reached a San Jose milestone, surpassing current Earthquakes assistant coach Ian Russell for sole possession of No. 9 on the club's all-time starts list with 92.
The Quakes return to action against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, Aug. 20 at The Home Depot Center. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will air live on MLS Direct Kick Package, 1220 KDOW and 1370 KZSF.
