Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Oliver Zapata hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the sixth inning, helping the Boise Hawks to their biggest scoring output of the season, topping the Eugene Emeralds, 15-8, before 2,558 fans at Memorial Stadium.

Showing bunt with two men on and no outs in a 6-6 game in the sixth, Zapata pulled the bat back and crushed a Greg Gonzalez pitch over the right field wall to give Boise the lead for good. Willson Contreras added a two-run single later in the frame to push the lead to 11-6.

Dustin Fitzgerald came in from the pen and tossed three shutout innings of relief to pick up his second save of the season - as Kyler Burke got his second win for the Hawks. Boise capped the scoring in the eighth on a three-run homer by Blair Springfield.

After the Ems took an early 1-0 lead in the first on the second of a season-high six Boise errors, the Hawks tied it in the bottom of the second on Paul Hoilman's league-leading 13th home run of the season. An RBI single by Wes Darvill in the fourth gave the hosts a 3-1 lead, but Eugene rallied for five in the fifth - getting RBI doubles by Justin Miller and Travis Whitmore, a Matt Colantonio sacrifice fly, and a two-run homer by Zach Kometani to grab a 6-3 lead.

Boise would respond in the bottom of the inning, as RBI singles by Rafael Lopez, Ryan Cuneo, and Contreras chased Eugene starter Johnny Barbato.

Contreras went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Hawks, with Hoilman going 3-for-4 with three run scored. Both Zapata and Springfield each had two hits and three RBI. Whitmore and Jose Dore each had two hits in the loss for the Emeralds.

Game 5 of the series is tomorrow night, with Yao-Lin Wang meeting Cody Hebner at 7:15 p.m.
