Six No-Hit Innings from Pedrotty Leads to Bears Win

August 13, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL) - Yakima Bears News Release

John Pedrotty pitched six no-hit innings in a 3-0 Yakima Bears victory over the Vancouver Canadians Saturday night at Yakima County Stadium. The combined two-hitter stretched the Bears current win streak to a season long four straight games.

Three batters were able to reach against Pedrotty in his six innings of work. Two reached on an error and the other on a walk. Pedrotty tossed his third consecutive quality start and earned his second win of the season. The lefty recorded seven strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 3.11.

Pedrotty's start marked the second time this season that a Bears starting pitcher held the opponent hitless through six innings. Teo Gutierrez pitched six perfect innings on July 14th at home against Salem-Keizer, but gave up several hits and runs in the seventh inning. Pedrotty did not come out for the seventh inning Saturday due to a pitch count limitation.

After Pedrotty left, Willy Paredes allowed a single in the seventh inning. Paredes finished with only the one hit allowed in two shutout innings and he had three strikeouts in his Northwest League debut. Victor Acosta gave up a hit, but no runs in the ninth inning as he earned his first NWL save.

Pedrotty was spotted a pair of runs by the Bears offense in the second inning. Garrett Weber hit a double and then scored on a Tyler Bream's triple. Bream came home when Tyson Van Winkle hit a single later in the inning.

The other run in the game came in the bottom of the fifth, when Jimmy Comerota hit a sacrifice fly to center that plated Westley Moss.

The Bears totaled 10 hits on the night, with eight of the nine batters in the order collecting at least one hit. Weber finished 2-for-3 and Moss went 2-for-4.

The Bears have taken the first four games of the series from the Canadians, who have lost seven straight games on their current road trip. The Bears will try for the five-game series sweep Sunday at Yakima County Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 5:35. Right-handed pitchers Teo Gutierrez of the Bears and Blake McFarland of the Canadians are the expected starters.
