
Shorebirds Win Fourth Straight Game, 13-1

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (26-35) scored seven runs in the fourth inning and throttled the Lakewood BlueClaws (20-41), 13-1, on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The 13 runs are the second most scored in a single game this season. The Shorebirds have won four straight games for the first time since winning five in a row between April 14 and April 18.
The Shorebirds sprinted to a 2-0 lead in the first. Glynn Davis reached on a tapper to third and stole his team best 14th base of the year. Three batters later, Jason Esposito ripped a double off the top of the left field wall to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Delmonico scored on a balk by Ervis Manzanillo.
In the fourth inning, the Shorebirds sent to 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs to build a 9-0 lead. The first six batters of the inning reached and Nicky Delmonico capped the string with a deep three-run homer to right field. Mychal Givens, Glynn Davis and Connor Narron also had run scoring hits in the fourth. Narron extended his hit streak to a season long eight games.
The Shorebirds stretched the lead to 11-0 in the fifth. With Delmonico on base, Jason Esposito blasted a line drive homer to left field, his third on the season.
Justin Moore picked up his first South Atlantic League win in six strong innings. He allowed five hits and one run.
The Shorebirds added two more runs in the seventh. Wynston Sawyer hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Delmonico, who drew a lead off walk. Esposito scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
The Shorebirds bullpen was once again excellent. Williams Louico tossed a scoreless seventh, Matt Bywater tossed a perfect eighth and David Baker retired the side in order in the ninth inning. The bullpen did not allow a hit in three scoreless innings.
Mikey Planeta and Jason Esposito each had three hits. Gabriel Lino and Glynn Davis each had a pair of hits.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play the series finale on Sunday, June 10 at 2:05pm. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
