Gillingham: Allowed 1 R on 5 H with 8 K and 1 BB over 9.0 IP in 6/01 Win vs. AUG (6-1 Tourists)
POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost in walk-off fashion on Friday evening, falling 7-6 to Asheville in 11 innings. The Power held leads of 4-0 after two and 6-5 after five and a half, but the Tourists tied the game with a run in the bottom of sixth. In the bottom of the eleventh, Taylor Featherston singled in Tyler Massey from second with two outs to send West Virginia to its' third straight loss. Robbie Kilcrease took the defeat for West Virginia. Five different Power batters had multi-hit games in the loss.
LONG ONE: Friday night's game was the longest that West Virginia has played this season, both in time (3:31) and innings (11). Until last night, a 9-8 loss at Charleston on April 19 was the longest game of the year; a nine-inning game clocking in at three hours and 18 minutes. The Power had gone to extra inning(s) four times this year before Friday, but had never played more than one additional frame.
THEN THERE WERE TWO: West Virginia and Asheville continue their final series this season tonight at McCormick Field. Asheville has won seven of ten so far and hold a 36-26 mark against the Power all-time. West Virginia is 13-16 at McCormick Field since 2005. The Power have played 17 percent of their first half schedule against Ashville.
WALK-OFF WOES: West Virginia has now played in eight games that have been decided in the final at bat, going 1-7 in walk-off contests. The Power have lost in walk-off fashion at Ashville (4/10), Charleston (4/22), Greensboro (5/06 in 10 innings), Greenville (5/20 in 10 innings). in each of the last two games against Hickory last weekend, and in 11 innings last night at Asheville. The lone walk-off win was on April 13 against Greenville on a wild pitch.
KING OF SWING: Gregory Polanco leads the Power with nine home runs after Tuesday's game against Delmarva. The club leaders for the entire 2011 season, Matt Curry and Rogelio Noris, each hit nine as well. Curry launched nine over 46 games, while Noris needed 62 games to reach that total.
PROMOTION OF THE YEAR? West Virginia's "Redneck Night" on May 26 was named as the best promotion during the month of May in all of Minor League Baseball and the team will now have the chance to win the "Golden Bobblehead" Award at the end of the season.
THREE STARS HEADED TO ASG: The South Atlantic League announced the 2012 All-Star Game rosters on Tuesday and three Power players were selected, including two starters. Alen Hanson will start at second base despite the fact that he has not played there once this season, while Gregory Polanco was selected to start in right field. Like Hanson, Polanco has not played the position he is starting in at all this season. Matt Benedict was chosen as one of the 11 pitchers to represent the Northern Division team in the game to be played at Joseph P. Riley Jr. park in Charleston, SC, on July 19.
PROMO UPDATE- JUNE 15: West Virginia will hold Pink Power Night on June 15 against the Hagerstown Suns. The team will don pink jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Komen for the Cure Foundation.
POWER POINTS: 2012 marks the fourth straight year as a Pirates affiliate that West Virginia has sent multiple players to the SAL All-Star Game... Gregory Polanco's hitting streak ended with an 0-6 performance on Friday. The outfielder hit .471 over his nine game streak with 16 hits over 34 at bats...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh knocked off Kansas City 4-2 to move three games over .500 and stay two games behind Cincinnati... Indianapolis outlasted Pawtucket 8-6 in 13 innings... Despite scoring seven runs over the final four innings, Altoona lost 8-7 at Akron... Bradenton split a doubleheader with Daytona, losing 3-2 early and winning 4-3 in the late game.
