STAT OF THE DAY: Nicky Delmonico cracked his 17th double of the season last night in the eighth inning. He is tied for eighth in the South Atlantic League in doubles. Delmonico leads the Orioles organization (including the major leaguers) in doubles.
PREVIEW: The Delmarva Shorebirds won their third straight game last night, 5-3, heading into game two of the series. Gabriel Lino capped off a five-run second inning with a three-run homer to left field. Miguel Chalas and Zach Fowler held the 'Claws scoreless over the final five innings. The Shorebirds have won three games in a row for the first time since April 16-18.
SERIES WIN: With a 4-2 win on Wednesday over West Virginia, the Shorebirds secured their first series win since April 24-27 against Greenville (3-1). Since the Greenville series, the Shorebirds lost seven series and split three before earning a win against the Power.
FOWLER'S DOMINANCE: Zach Fowler has not allowed an earned run in seven consecutive outings to lower his ERA from 11.25 (April 28) to 2.70 (current). He has not allowed an earned run in 12.2 consecutive innings. During the time frame, Fowler has a 19:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He has given up just eight hits in the last 12.2 innings.
NARRON'S JUNE: Through seven games in June, Connor Narron is 13-for-24 (.541) with three home runs and eight RBIs. Narron has double the amount of RBIs he had in 23 games in May (4) in seven games in June. During his seven-game hitting streak, Narron has boosted his batting average from .185 to .235, the highest it has been since May 8 (.237).
LINO'S FIRST: Gabriel Lino hit two home runs on April 15 and did not homer in the next 34 games (124 at-bats) until last night's second inning home run.
DELMONICO'S AN ALL-STAR: On Tuesday, Nicky Delmonico was named the starting first baseman for the Northern Division in the SAL All-Star Game on June 19 in Charleston, South Carolina. Delmonico is the only Shorebirds player representative. He leads the team in several major statistical categories including: hits (55), RBIs (34), total bases (87), doubles (17) and home runs (5).
