Lexington Legends News Release
Delmarva starter Ryan O'Shea and two relievers combined to limit the Lexington Legends to four hits as the Shorebirds beat the visiting Legends 3-1.
The Legends scored first in the fourth inning. Ebert Rosario reached first on an error by shortstop Greg Miclat. Rosario moved to second on a single by Brian Pellegrini and to third on Steve Brown's fly ball to right field. Eric Suttle then grounded to first baseman Joe Mahoney, who tagged the first base bag to retire Suttle and then threw to second, where Pellegrini was tagged out. Rosario crossed the plate before the play was made on Pellegrini to give the Legends a 1-0 lead.
The lead lasted until the bottom of the sixth. Lexington starter David Duncan, who struck out seven and walked one in six innings, was touched for a leadoff single by Xavier Avery. After a sacrifice, Mahoney doubled, scoring Avery. Mahoney moved to third on a wild pitch, and after Ron Welty walked, Tyler Kolodny's sacrifice fly scored Mahoney and gave Delmarva a 2-1 lead.
The Shorebirds added a final run in the seventh on a successful suicide squeeze, as Luis Bernardo's bunt scored Rodolfo Cardona from third.
O'Shea (6-5) pitched seven innings and earned the win. Duncan (1-1) took the loss. The Legends, who have lost five straight, will wrap up the four-game series with Delmarva Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
