
Rome Wins a Wild Wednesday Affair with Greensboro

Rome, GA - In a wild Wednesday afternoon game at State Mutual Stadium, the Rome Braves defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 12 - 10 in front of 2,262 fans in eleven innings. There were a combined 22 runs, 36 hits, and four errors between the two clubs.
The Grasshoppers scored three times in the first inning highlighted by run scoring singles from Isaac Galloway, Ryan Keedy, and Justin Bass. Rome answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Luis Sumoza for the 3-1 score.
Greensboro added three more runs in the second as Paul Gran singled home Galloway and a double by Jeremy Synan plated Gran. Keedy picked up another RBI with a single to score Synan for the 6-1 score.
The Grasshoppers made it an 8-1 game in the fourth thanks to some sloppy play by Rome allowing the first score of the inning and later Justin Bass doubled to drive home the eighth run of the day.
The Braves blasted their way back into the game in the fifth posting six runs to make it an 8-7 game. Yoel Campusano and Matt Kennelly had RBI singles, Luis Smoza added a double to score two, and Breaden Schlehuber also drove in two runs.
In the sixth, Greensboro scored twice thanks to a two RBI double by Bass for the 10-7 score. Rome tied the contest 10-10 in the eighth after two outs highlighted by a two RBI single from Shayne Moody and a run scoring hit from Yoel Campusano.
In dramatic fashion, with two outs and a runner a first, Schlehuber cracked a home run (5) that just cleared the left centerfield wall giving the Braves the victory. Schlehuber had four RBI on the afternoon. Jaye Chapman gets the win (1-0) going three shutout innings. Andrew Loomis (2-3) takes the loss for the Grasshoppers.
