PREVIEW: The Shorebirds look to continue their strong play in game one against West Virginia. The Shorebirds are 2-2 in games following scheduled off days this season. Delmarva is in fourth place in the Northern Division, three games back of Lakewood. West Virginia
STARTING PITCHING SUCCESS: Over the last seven games, Shorebirds starting pitching has allowed just 26 hits and two earned runs in 41.0 innings pitched. Further, the seven starters have combined to strike out 36 batters with just seven walks. The last four Shorebirds starters (Kantakevich, Bundy, Hobgood & Allar) did not allow an earned run in 19.0 innings pitched.
11TH IN SINGLE-SEASON: Shorebirds closer Josh Dowdy ranks 11th all-time in single-season history with 15 saves. Derek Brown (1998) is the all-time leader with 33 saves. Dowdy is one save from matching Brandon Cooney, who led the Shorebirds last season with 16 saves.
29 WINS VS. NORTH: The Shorebirds have won 29 of their 41 games against the Northern Division this season. The 29 wins are the second most in the division, behind Lakewood (41). The Shorebirds will play 39 of their final 52 games against teams in the Northern Division.
SEVERAL 'BIRDS IN DOWNWARD SPINS: The Shorebirds offense has sputtered of late. They are batting just .213 in their last ten games and .199 as a team in the last five. T.J. Baxter and Levi Carolus each have just one hit in their last 18 at-bats. Garabez Rosa is just 3-for-30 in his last eight games. Kieron Pope is only 5-for-32 in his last nine games. The Shorebirds are batting a SAL worst .208 through 12 games in July.
19 STRAIGHT: Shorebirds third baseman Ty Kelly has gone 19 straight games without an error. Kelly has made only nine errors in 79 games this season.
TOP OF THE ORDER CRITICAL: In the Shorebirds two losses in the Lakewood series, the 1 through 4 hitters were a combined 3-for-30. The Shorebirds top four hitters in the order went 11-41 in the three wins.
SIXTH WIN STREAK: The Shorebirds are looking for their sixth three-plus game win streak of the season.
.227 VS. WEST VIRGINIA: In nine games against West Virginia, the Shorebirds are hitting .227. The Power are hitting .257 against the 'Birds this season. This is West Virginia's first trip to Perdue Stadium this year.
4 IN LAST EIGHT: Ty Kelly has four multi-hit games in his last eight games. He has 10 hits in his last eight. His current .263 batting average is his highest mark since June 3 when he was hitting .268.
FIVE-GAME HIT STREAK: Luis Bernardo is riding a season high five game hit streak into game one against West Virginia. He is 7-for-19 during the stretch with two doubles. His career best hitting streak is six, accomplished between 6/25 and 7/2 of 2009 with the Delmarva Shorebirds.
FOUR-GAMER FOR DALLES: Shorebirds catcher Justin Dalles is on a mini four-game hitting streak (4-for-14). He began the season on an eight-game hit streak.
SECOND IN LEAGUE: Steve Bumbry ranks second in the SAL in strikeouts with 102. Only Anthony Hewitt of Lakewood has been fanned more times, 107. Bumbry has struck out 32 more times than anyone else on the club.
