Charleston, SC - Rob Lyerly's two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Charleston RiverDogs a walkoff 3-1 win in the opener of a five-game series with the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday night.

Against Wilmin Rodriguez (1-2), JR Murphy drew a one-out walk before Lyerly's blast won the game. The drive actually hit the top of the left field wall - the second ball hit in the game to do that - and bounced straight up before disappearing beyond the fence and over the outstretched glove of Nick Liles.

Augusta took the first lead in the fifth when Tommy Joseph wrapped a line drive around the foul pole in left field for his 12th home run of the year to put the Jackets up a run after the solo shot. In the bottom of the inning, the RiverDogs earned the equalizer on Francisco Santana's two-out RBI triple. Santana's ball - also a drive to left - hit the top of the fence but bounced back in play and went for a triple, unlike the Lyerly home run.

Both starters turned in solid efforts as Jorge Bucardo shook off the cobwebs of some recent rough outings to throw seven solid innings for the Jackets. He allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out four. Ronny Marte yielded a run on five hits and a walk while striking out two.

Ryan Acosta (5-3) got the final out of the ninth inning to get the win in relief of Marte and Ryan Flannery, who held Augusta scoreless for 2.2 innings. The Jackets had loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth on a pair of hits off Flannery and a walk to the first hitter Acosta faced, but Evan Crawford flew out to center to end the threat.

Andy Reichard (1-0, 3.64) takes the ball for the GreenJackets on Thursday to face Mike Solbach (2-2, 3.24) in the second game of the series. First pitch from Charleston will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
