KANNAPOLIS, MD - Jiwan James singled in the first to tie the BlueClaws hit streak record, and Lakewood beat the Kannapolis Intimidators (White Sox) 6-2 Wednesday night.
James now has a hit in 21 straight games, tying Ambiorix Reyes' record set back in 2001. James went 1-for-4 with an RBI Wednesday, and is hitting .327 (50/153) since May 30th.
The BlueClaws (13-6) slumping offense finally awakened in the seventh inning. After scoring just 12 runs in the last seven games, Lakewood erupted for five against the Kannapolis (7-13) bullpen.
Sebastian Valle led off with a double, Adam Buschini walked, and Anthony Hewitt brought them both home with a double to put the Claws up 3-2.
James added an RBI sacrifice-fly, Jonathan Villar singled, and Leandro Castro doubled in a run. Villar topped off the inning by scoring on a wild pitch, and Lakewood took a 6-2 lead they wouldn't give up.
Josh Zeid had a solid start for the BlueClaws, letting up just one run in five innings. Monmouth University product Ryan Buch, an eighth round pick in 2009, matched Zeid by giving up a run through five innings.
Chad Poe (1-0) got the win out of the pen, while Kannapolis reliever JR Ballinger (0-4) took the loss.
Kannapolis opened the scoring in the third on an Ian Gac RBI groundout. Lakewood then tied the game in the fifth on an Alan Schoenberger RBI single, only to have the Intimidators jump back ahead on a Juan Silverio double in the sixth, making it a 2-1 game.
Thursday at 7:05 pm, RHP Brody Colvin (5-6, 3.87) faces Intimidators RHP Matt Hopps (1-7, 5.50).
