HOME OPENER AT ARTHUR W. PERDUE STADIUM
STAT OF THE GAME: Sammie Starr has gone without an error in 31 total chances this season and has assisted on six double plays through the first seven games of the season. In 57 chances last season, Starr made just four errors between the NYPL and the SAL.
PREVIEW: Following a 4-3 road swing to North Carolina, the Shorebirds return to Perdue Stadium for the home opener against Greensboro, the defending SAL champions. Dylan Bundy struck out six batters over three perfect innings last night, but Kannapolis tallied runs in the seventh and eighth innings to drop the Shorebirds 2-1.
BUNDY'S EXCELLENCE: In six perfect innings this season, Dylan Bundy has not allowed a hit or a run. In fact, he has not allowed a base runner. Bundy has retired all 18 batters that have come to the plate against him. The Orioles first round pick has 12 strikeouts, which ranks sixth in the SAL. Three players pace the SAL with 15 strikeouts (The fewest innings pitched of the three is 9.0).
7 STRAIGHT: The Shorebirds have scored first in all seven games this season. They scored the game's first run last night in the seventh inning.
WEBB'S NUMBERS UP: Brenden Webb is tied with John Ruettiger for the team lead with eight hits this season. He takes a 3-game hit streak into the home opener. Webb recorded five hits and five RBIs in the series against Kannapolis. Webb didn't record his eighth hit until the his 15th game of the season last year.
OFFENSIVE RANKS: The Shorebirds rank fourth in the league in RBIs (36), second in the league in walks drawn (34), tied for third in doubles (14) and third in stolen bases (13). The Shorebirds rank sixth in the league in OPS (.712).
LEFT-RIGHT SPLITS: The Shorebirds are hitting .289 against right-handed pitching and .195 against left-handed pitching. Kannapolis' left-handed starters in games two and three had success against the Shorebirds. They combined for 10.1 innings pitched and allowed just three earned runs with 18 strikeouts and four walks. Only Glynn Davis is batting over .300 against lefties.
EXCELLENT NUMBERS WITH RISP: The Shorebirds are hitting .274 with runners in scoring position this season. They're hitting .257 with runners in scoring position and two outs.
DELMONICO'S 4-GAME HIT STREAK: After going 0-for-5 in the opener, Delmonico has five hits in his last 12 at-bats.
