RiverDogs Win Road Opener 9-3

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs won their 2012 road opener with a 9-3 win over the Rome Braves in front of 3,696 fans at State Mutual Stadium on Thursday night. With the victory, Charleston improved o 5-2 on the year in the South Atlantic League while Rome fell to 1-6 with the loss in their home opener.
Tim Hudson was making his second rehab appearance for Rome, and for the second time in less than a week the RiverDogs got to him early and tagging him with the loss as he falls to 0-2 on the year. Hudson allowed 5 runs on 9 hits over 4 innings before departing. Caleb Cotham pitched very well for Charleston allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits and collecting the win to move to 1-0.
The defense was fantastic again for the RiverDogs turning two double plays, and capped off by a highlight reel diving catch in left centerfield by Mason Williams in the 6th inning. Dante Bichette Jr. finished the game 3-4 with 2 singles, a double, a walk, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Tyler Austin smacked his first 2 HR's of the season for Charleston as well with a 2-run shot in the 7th inning, and a solo jack in the top of the 9th.
Game 2 will be on Friday night with RHP Bryan Mitchell (0-0, 0.00 ERA) starting for Charleston and RHP AJ Holland (0-1, 0.00 ERA) starting for Rome. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
