Rome Drops Home Opener

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves fell to the Charleston Riverdogs 9-3 Thursday night before 3,696 fans at State Mutual Stadium. The game kicked off the 10th season of Braves baseball in Rome.

Charleston struck first in the second inning on an RBI single from Anderson Feliz, for the 1-0 score. The Riverdogs added to their lead in the third. After a single, a hit batsman and a stolen base, Dante Bichette, Jr. singled in Mason Williams to give Charleston the 2-0 lead. The Riverdogs added to their lead in the fourth with three runs as Angelo Gumbs scored on a wild pitch and Feliz and Mason Williams each had RBI singles increasing the Charleston lead to 5-0.

Rome put two runs on the board in the fourth. Kyle Kubitza hit an inside the park homerun making it a5-1 game. It was the first inside the park homer since Ovandy Suero did it in 2006. Will Beckwith and Edison Sanchez followed with back-to-back doubles to close the gap to 5-3. The Riverdogs added another run in the fifth inning, two in the seventh and one in the ninth while Rome would add one run in the sixth for the final score of 9-3.

Caleb Cotham(1-0) earns his first victory of the season. Tim Hudson (0-2) gets the loss for Rome. Hudson was on the mound in his second rehab start of the season. Rome takes on Charleston again tomorrow at 7PM. 2012 Rome Braves magnetic schedules will be given to fans at the gate.
