Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds lost the series and road trip finale to the Lexington Legends, 14-6 on Wednesday night. Delmarva led 4-0 before the Legends scored ten unanswered runs. Dex Kjer- stad tied the game with a three-run home run, then Lexington took the lead in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Kyle Freeland will start the series opener for the Asheville Tourists. Free- land has made three starts for Asheville, going 1-0 with a 0.66 ERA. The left-hander has allowed two runs (one earned) in 13 2/3 innings pitched with the Tourists. Freeland started his profes- sional career in Grand Junction, going 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA for the Rockies. Colorado drafted the lefty in the 1st round (8th overall) this year out of the University of Evansville.
19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.
ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles swept the Chicago White Sox with a 4-3 win on Wednes- day evening. Nelson Cruz hit his 33rd home run of the season, while Adam Jones and Steve Pearce also went deep. Wei-Yin Chen improved to 13-4 on the year, as the O's opened up a nine- game lead in the AL East.
RACE FOR A BATTING TITLE: Two Shorebirds are in the running for the league batting title at year's end. Chance Sisco (.337) and Drew Dosch (.322) are both in the top 6 in the South Atlantic League among qualifying hitters in batting average. Michael Benjamin of the Asheville Tourists had been leading with a .341 average, but he just slipped off the list with not enough plate ap- pearances to qualify. Sisco currently leads Willians Astudillo of Lakewood by two points.

After losing six consecu- tive decisions, Brault has now won back-to-back starts with one run allowed in his last 13 innings. The left-hander now leads the team with nine wins. Brault leads the league in WHIP at 1.04, and he is 2nd in opponents' batting average (.227) and strikeouts (115). His 3.05 ERA ranks 6th in SAL.
WHO'S HOT - CONOR BIERFELDT
The Shorebirds outfielder/designated hitter added another RBI on Saturday evening, raising his team-high total to 67. Bierfeldt also leads the team with 12 home runs and 26 doubles.
WHO ELSE - GREGORY LORENZO
The Shorebirds outfielder swiped another two bags on Tuesday, now 41 steals on the season. With 40 steals with Delmarva in 2013, and 6 in 2012, Lorenzo is the franchise record holder with 87 career stolen bases.
